Before your visit
- Make sure you eat a snack or light meal approximately 30 minutes before your appointment.
- Please avoid caffeine, alcohol and overly fatty-foods before your appointment.
- It's a good idea to wear or bring loose-fitting & comfortable clothes that can be rolled up to your elbows and knees. Shorts and a tank top are IDEAL!
- Try to refrain from exercise for 2 hours before and after your visit.
- Please bring a list of any medications or supplements you are currently taking.
Every appointment includes a health evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment. After the initial appointment, a treatment plan will be specifically tailored to you and may include recommendations for herbal or nutritional supplements, dietary modification, books, & exercises in addition to acupuncture. Your treatment plan is meant to be a personal guideline to help you heal yourself inside & out.
You and I will have an in-depth discussion about your current health concerns. I’ll ask you a lot of specific questions, look at your tongue, and take your pulses, all of which provide me with diagnostic information to help me determine your proper course of treatment. Next, you’ll lie down on a heated massage table for the acupuncture treatment.* Your initial visit will last 60-75 minutes.
Follow-up appointments include an update and evaluation of your progress followed by the acupuncture treatment.* These appointments last 45-60 minutes.
*During each treatment session, you may receive cupping, moxa, gua sha, tui na, and nutrition & lifestyle recommendations in addition to acupuncture. I will decide what treatments are best for you once I have taken a detailed history and gained a better understanding of your needs.
Payment is due at the time of service unless insurance payment has been arranged. I accept cash, personal check, and all major credit & debit cards. Returned checks will incur a $25 fee.
Saco River Acupuncture requires a 24-hour cancellation notice for all set appointments. If you miss an appointment or cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment, you will be charged a $50 late cancellation fee. Please understand that I cannot bill insurance for a missed appointment, so this fee also applies for insurance patients who miss an appointment. Please keep in mind that late arrivals may result in a shorter treatment and you will still be charged the full cost of your treatment.
Did you know that your health insurance may cover acupuncture? I accept Aetna, Cigna, Harvard Pilgrim, United Healthcare, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Everyone's health insurance coverage is different, and some have acupuncture benefits while others do not. Some insurance companies have very specific diagnoses that they will cover. Knowing what is covered ahead of time may ensure that you will not have any unforeseen expenses. If you would like me to check your benefits, click the button below and enter your information. I will get back to you within 2-3 days. If you do have insurance coverage for acupuncture, I will bill your insurance for you as part of my services. Your copay is always due at time of service.
*Please remember that a verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment by the insurance company, and that any visits that are uncovered are to be paid by the patient in full.
